Misrepresenting The Holy Spirit VI: The Devil Is Smart!

February 25, 2013

Out in the open wisdom calls aloud, she raises her voice in the public square; on top of the wall she cries out, at the city gate she makes her speech,

“How long will you who are simple love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge? (Proverbs 1:20)

Read Part Five Here…

And finally the last group of people who practice misrepresenting the Holy Spirit (MHS) are the so-called prophets, prophetesses, psychics, healers, phony modern apostles, fake pastors and last but not least the inappropriate tongue speakers.

These folks are the con artists, the intensely deceived Christians and/or people who try to appear as Christians. These are the people who do the real damage.  They make the practice of MHS their life. In addition to insecurity, control, attention, influence, and the appearance of holiness you can add the following reasons to why they do it: Title, power, prestige, ego, position and finally the big one, MONEY!

Outside of the con artists, many of these people actually think they have a relationship with GOD. They’re in too deep; the devil is too good for them. They’re spouses have even become complicit out of love for them. The spouse confirms things they’ve never seen, and may not even believe, because of their love first and foremost but there is also a little bit of Jezebel and Ahab going on here. The spouse is afraid of the consequences of not going along, even at the expense of their own relationship with GOD. Their spouse has become their idol out of love, and many times they don’t even know it.

I have a short story I hope will shed some light on how these people can be so deceived.  There was a catholic bishop that defected who explained how his whole life he thought that the catholic church was actually doing GOD’S work and that GOD was doing powerful things through the church because he had been a part of hundreds of exorcisms (yes they’re real).

He witnessed people who were possessed one minute, be freed of that possession by the end of the procedure. He said this is what kept him in the church long after he realized that what they preached was heresy and far from the Bible. Then one day GOD made it clear to him how it was possible for a church with no GODLY power to be doing such amazing things. GOD showed him that it wasn’t Him making those demons flee; it was the devil himself lifting his hand so that his church could continue to appear as if it had power from GOD. This is a classic case of, “The devil masquerading as the angel of Light” (2 Corinthians 11:14).

Yes the catholic church does some good despite misleading millions, but a crucifix is an idol. Worshipping and kneeling to Mary is nothing more than a concerted effort formulated hundreds of years ago by the leadership to take the spot light off of Jesus Christ and put it on Mary, the pope, cardinal, bishop, priest and the church itself. Calling the pope father makes me want to puke. The idea that if you die without confessing a sin to a human priest you’ll go to hell is pure heresy, and it’s only been in the past few years that the catholic church has finally recognized that it’s parishioners have the same opportunity at a relationship with GOD as it’s priests do. My mom was catholic for years and never once did they urge her to read her Bible personally, while telling her that the priest was the only one who could read from the scriptures, this was also the case for me during my six years of catholic school but I digress.

I tell the story of the defected bishop because this is what’s happening to many of these people. The devil is manufacturing a situation that it has control over, only to use it to mislead these people and make it appear as if it’s from GOD. The devil takes advantage of their weak theological understanding, insecurity, need for attention and financial situation and pulls off the grand deception.

So the devil is the one feeding them little tidbits of information about people from time to time, the same as he does with all psychics. The devil is the one who feeds them amazing information about the kingdom of GOD as they write it on a little piece of paper to show me. The devil is the one making them think that they have a tongue, and making them show it off at inappropriate times, when the Bible is clear about how and when to use it and how there is probably never a time in a persons life when it’s appropriate to use their tongue in public.  While GOD certainly heals, the devil is the one doing the healing in the basement with you and your buddies! It’s the devil deceiving them, but he always looks like GOD and he’s got them on a string!

Edit: Since I wrote this article it has become clear to me that the gift of tongues, prophecy and most of the gifts practiced by the Pentecostal Church and Charismatic movement has ceased. If you’d like to understand this better you can follow this link. The verses below are direction for the church prior to these gifts ceasing.

Continue to Part 7…

Scripture related to speaking in tongues.

1. Only speak in tongues if you’re helping the church or each other.   Now, brothers and sisters, if I come to you and speak in tongues, what good will I be to you, unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or word of instruction? (1 Corinthians 14:6)

2. A person should only speak in tongues if it’s interpreted.  For this reason the one who speaks in a tongue should pray that they may interpret what they say. (1 Corinthians 14:13)

3. It’s pointless unless others can understand. But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue. (1 Corinthians 14:19)

4. It would be a real and intelligible language. Undoubtedly there are all sorts of languages in the world, yet none of them is without meaning. (1 Corinthians 14:10)

5. Only one at a time. If anyone speaks in a tongue, two—or at the most three—should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret. (1 Corinthians 14:27)

6. If there is no interpreter “KEEP QUITE”! If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and to God. (1 Corinthians 14:28)

7. And finally GOD is not the author of confusion. For God is not a God of disorder but of peace—as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people. (1 Corinthians 14:33)

8. A couple good articles Here and Here.

   Whoever corrects a mocker invites insults;

     whoever rebukes the wicked incurs abuse.

    Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you;

     rebuke the wise and they will love you.

   Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still;

     teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.

  (Proverbs 9:7-9)
